Matteusz Andrzejewski (born 1999) was a student at Coal Hill Academy in 2016. He was gay and as a result, experienced conflict with his deeply religious Polish parents, although he was close to his grandmother, who called him “Matti”.
After his parents threw him out when he started dating Charlie Smith, he lived with Charlie and Miss Quill at 1 Wellington Road, London, N1 0HR.
When he began learning English, he would read books in the language, including a book about a place called Narnia, at his mother’s suggestion. (Detained)
In 2015, Matteusz visited his grandmother in Poland for her birthday, with his father, and finally admitted his homosexuality to her. She had always known but wanted to hear it from him. (Detained)
On 14 October 2016, Matteusz accepted Charlie Smith’s invitation to join him as his date for the Autumn Prom. He survived the Shadow Kin attack on the night of the prom and was among the few students who met the Twelfth Doctor. (For Tonight We Might Die)
According to Charlie, Matteusz was grounded when a dragon monster was attacking the school. (The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo)
Matteusz’ body was taken over by Steve Hopley, with two other “joyriders” taking over April and Tanya’s, to kidnap Charlie and Miss Quill, using the alien body-swapping technology stolen by Garry Fletcher. James Banks, who was controlling Tanya, threatened to kill Matteusz’ body in order to coerce Charlie and Miss Quill into following them to the alien machine and fixing it. Matteusz was eventually returned to his body. (Joyride)
He told April some of his folk tales from his grandmother. Quill took him along to help her track down a signal, and that he would need to protect him. She also brought him along due to his physical fitness. Exploring the building he saw a lot of headless spectres. He tried to sacrifice himself to save Charlie. April managed to get Matteusz back but he became possessed by the Durant. (The Creeper)
He was thrown out of the house by his parents for his relationship with Charlie. (Nightvisiting) He subsequently lived with Charlie and Miss Quill. (Nightvisiting, What She Does Next Will Astound You) On his first night staying there he admitted to Charlie that he loved him, and the pair ended up having sex. After Charlie saw his parents due to the Lankin’s influence, he helped Charlie and Miss Quill defeat the creature, discovering on the way to Tanya Adeola’s flat that every time he severed part of the creatures roots they immediately reattached. He was a bit surprised that Tanya was going on a date afteroffering to make dinner for her in a study group. (Catfish)
Following Tanya’s request, Matteusz with the others went to check what was wrong with an old stone house. When April was knocked unconscious, he dialled 999 to call an ambulance. During his second visit to the house, Matteusz was attacked by Charlie’s doppelganger, which turned into dust from the touch of real Charlie. Later that evening, Matteusz and Charlie were completely cocooned in spiderwebs by the female bone spider. They were released by DC Carpenter. (The Stone House)
In an effort to understand human Internet culture, Charlie posted pictures of Matteusz nearly nude. Matteusz was greatly upset by this, especially because he did not know Charlie had even taken the pictures, and did not forgive him until the next day. (What She Does Next Will Astound You)
He went into the male changing room with Charlie in order to pick up Charlie’s bag, realising that they were alone and started to undress Charlie with the intention of having sex. After hearing a strange noise and saying “I love you”, he found that he was physically unable stop talking. He kept saying things about his relationship with Charlie and how he felt about him at uncontrollable pace, but forgot his name. Quill interrogated about him about how the situation started. He calmed Charlie down by getting him to say “Matteusz” over and over again. As it turned out, the uncontrollable talking had been the result of an Emphani using him as a host. In an attempt to figure out how it transferred from him, Quill got Matteusz to touch and kiss Charlie again. Matteusz said “I Love You” again and he started to again stop talking. He thought that Charlie didn’t love him in the same way he did. He took back the “curse” to try and get Quill and Charlie to work out the solution, but Charlie took it back. After learning what was happening to them, he took the parasite from Quill with hesitation, and was worried about forgetting Charlie. Quill wanted to use him as bait. (Tell Me You Love Me)
He told Tanya about the attacked caretaker. He talked to Tanya about fitting in, some he knew he didn’t as a gay polish immigrant in inner city London. After Chris Richards insulted Tanya, he went after her and tried to make Chris understand. Chris hurled racist abuse at him and attacked him. He saw that something came through a tear and attacked him. The deputy head questioned on him on what happened. He later phoned Tanya about it and told her what he heard through the rift. When Michelle was attacked he took a picture of the attacker, and he looked like a boy. After Tanya found that the student Peter Dillard fitted the description of the attacker , he found him hot. Tanya realised that they had to fight to get Dillard to manifest. After he did, he learnt how he came to be there and went through the rift to find out where he came from. (Now You Know…)
Ram and Matteusz were on a team playing bowling against April and Charlie. He argued with Charlie over Charlie’s reaction to his friends, and often thought he was his counsellor not his boyfriend. Walking home Charlie and Ram got lost, in a tudor style street. He met with Algen and agreed to go to a party with her. They later realised that they were to be prey in a hunt. After being placed in the ditch he wondered how he could see. He saved Charlie from being swallowed by the walls during his panic attack. He admitted to Charlie that he thought that one day he would leave him and go back to space. He realised that he could trust Charlie with his life and that he truely loved him. (The Soers’ Ditch)
He often cooked for Charlie as he couldn’t cook (even with a recipe). Quill caught Charlie and Matteusz about to have sex, this cause Matteusz to wonder if they could move out. He started to act strangely playing up to Charlie being a prince, and that he was doing this as he thought Charlie was working too hard. Matteusz even became concerned that Charlie could perhaps be seeing someone else without his knowledge. He thought Quill was seeing someone as she was often late back from work. Having discovered that Charlie used an energy source to create The Man and not one of Matteusz’s celebrity crushes, he became annoyed but having realised Countryfile was on he could watch the weather guy instead. He became interested in the ornate box in Charlie’s room and asked him about it. Charlie showed him the contents of the Cabinet of Souls and explained the legends of his people that the box could be used as a weapon to kill or possess a whole race. Matteusz didn’t like this as it would lead to a genocide. This upset Charlie. He was the first of the Coal Hill defenders to notice the killer petals that were appearing around the school and how they were increasing in number. He went with Charlie to April’s house just in time to see her travel to the Underneath. (Co-Ownerof a Lonely Heart) When Miss Quill and Dorothea Ames took Charlie and him to their house in order to persuade Charlie to use the Cabinet of Souls to kill the petals, Ames pulled a gun on Matteusz to motivate Charlie. Matteusz was adamant that using the weapon was mass murder but surreptitiously texted Tanya “Shadow kills petals”, having realised that the Shadow Kin could be used to kill the petals. Whilst Charlie was arming the device, Ames had turned her back to Matteusz and he used that to his advantage and knocked Ames out, remarking that he really didn’t like guns. After Charlie disarmed the weapon, Charlie confessed that he might have lost what made him, him; Matteusz told Charlie that if he was ever lost, Matteusz would find him. (Brave-ish Heart)
He was placed in detention by Quill to get him out of the way when a meteor brought the classroom he and the others were in into no-time, no-space. He was the first to notice the meteor that contained the Prisoner embedded in the wall. When he touched the meteor he confessed that he was afraid of Charlie as well as loving him. This upset Charlie but he managed to bring him around using a story from his youth. Later Ram had a confrontation with him, as Ram, affected by the Prisoner, thought that Matteusz had some weird sexual fetish being into an alien. When Charlie had a panic attack Matteusz had to calm him down. He got concerned when Charlie said that he wanted to use the Cabinet of Souls to destroy the Shadow Kin, but discovered that it was Charlie’s love for Matteusz that stopped him. Charlie killed the Prisoner, bringing the class back to Earth. Quill revealed to Charlie and Matteusz that she had had the arn inside her head removed, restoring her free will, and said that things were going to change. He moved out of Charlie’s house following the events in Class B3 and spent the week sleeping in his cousin’s car. He came back to talk to Charlie about their relationship and how he hadn’t stopped thinking about him during the week they were apart. After Charlie heard that Corakinus was back, Matteusz went with him to April’s house and learnt that Corakinus had planned him to be the fifth person to die after Ram’s father. Following Charlie, who tried to get the Governors to help in their plight, he was then captured by Corakinus to be used to get Charlie angry. He was released when April decided to go with Corakinus back to the Underneath. He was shocked when Charlie shot April to become king of the Shadow Kin, and pleaded with him not to use the Cabinet to kill the Shadow Kin. (The Lost)

His full name was never spoken in the TV episodes, but it appeared in a fact-file on Charlie in the episode Co-Ownerof a Lonely Heart. It was, however, later spoken by characters in the Big Finish audios.[which?]
